I’ve found myself spending hours on social media under the guise of staying informed, but it has slowly drifted into doomscrolling. I know I’m not alone in looking for information and some sense of connection when everything feels overwhelming.
A lot of people aren’t okay right now. They’re exhausted, distracted, worried about layoffs, drinking more than they want to, and struggling to focus. Loneliness is at an all-time high. The desire for connection is strong and unmet for many.
And then we go to work.
Workplaces mirror society more than we like to admit. Different lived realities. Different values. Different thresholds for what is tolerable. Different expectations for whether work should be a place of connection, stability, or simply a paycheck.
When those expectations go unspoken, tension builds. Small things feel bigger, and misunderstandings escalate. It becomes harder to work well together, even when people have good intentions.
That’s what we’re talking about in this month’s Lunch & Learn, Belonging Under Strain: What Sustains Connection When Tension Is High
