I’m Not Okay

That wasn’t the response I was expecting when I asked, “How are you?” during a meeting. But it was the truth.

That moment has stayed with me.

We’re often expected to say we’re fine. To push through and keep things moving. But many of us are not okay right now, and pretending we are doesn’t help.

When I heard, “I’m not okay” I had a choice. I could have quickly replied, “Sorry to hear that,” and moved on like nothing happened. Or I could pause and hold space for the moment.

Not fixing. Not managing. Just being present and allowing people to be human, even at work.

Since 2019, the pace of change has increased by 183%, and in the past year alone, another 33%. That kind of constant shift wears us down. It shows up in how we feel, how we lead, and how we relate to one another.

It’s one of the reasons we’re co-hosting a free webinar with Maureen “Mo” Berkner Boyt from Everyday Inclusion to discuss the tools we need to thrive through transitions.
