Change is hard.
It is uncomfortable even when it is expected, and it is often destabilizing when it is not.
The past few years have been a whirlwind of change in my personal and professional life. There were times when I did not know which way was up or how I was going to survive the next moment.
Something shifted for me when I realized I was spending so much energy trying to change things that I had no control over.
This has been on my mind as I prepare for an upcoming webinar I am co-hosting: Chaos Busters: Thriving During Times of Transition. It has me thinking about a tool I come back to again and again for myself, my clients, and my team.
It is the simple but powerful idea of locus of control.
It is about pausing in the middle of change and asking:
What is within my control right now?
And what is not?
That pause matters if we are going to take thoughtful action and make the next, best decision for ourselves.
Because when everything feels like it is swirling around us, it is grounding to remember that we cannot control the economy, layoffs, or the ripple effects that come with big shifts.
But we can control how we care for ourselves, how we show up for others, how we use our influence, and how we respond to the moment.
That is the heart of change resilience. Not forcing yourself to love change. Not pretending it is easy. But finding small, steady places where you can take action and move forward.
We will be talking a lot more about this in the webinar. But for today, I invite you to ask yourself:
What is one thing within your control right now?
And what would it look like to focus your energy there?
Small steps can be powerful ones.
Ready to steady yourself in the middle of change?
Join me for a free webinar, Chaos Busters: Thriving During Times of Transition on April 30 at 12:30 p.m. ET. You will learn practical tools to strengthen your resilience, support your team, and move forward with greater clarity, even when things feel uncertain.
