Running Ragged? Stop Trying To Do It All!

Are you trying to do it all and failing? Do you find yourself constantly on the go with growing to-do lists that never seem to end? There’s a secret to making it all work.

You have to accept that you can’t have it all at the same time. It isn’t possible to be an incredible worker, wife, mother, daughter, friend, volunteer, and more all at the same time. Is it possible to have those various relationships and responsibilities simultaneously? Yes! But can you be a rock star at each of them at the same time? No.

Instead you must prioritize, pick and choose which areas get the most of your energy and attention at this moment. Trouble in your relationship? Starting a new business? Then that’s where you’ll put your attention. This isn’t to say that you will ignore the other areas of your life. But instead you can be honest about your focus and then realistic about what you can accomplish right now.

If you want to stop your mind and body from running a race that you can’t win then change your expectations. If you were raised that you need to work twice as hard to be considered equal then this is a particularly challenging thought. But let me be clear, I am not suggesting that you lower your expectations. But change them.  Perhaps you need to extend time frames for your goals or ask for help with your relationships and projects. Be realistic about what you can give, do, and accomplish.

Not only will you feel relief but those around you will also appreciate this change in you. It is much easier to be around someone who is calm and enjoying what is. So give yourself and those you love a break by setting realistic expectations and enjoying what is incredible in this moment.

Tell us what you think! Can you have it all simultaneously? What has worked or not worked for you? If you don’t aim to have it all what tips have worked for you?
