It’s our anniversary!!!
Twenty years ago today, I embarked on an incredible journey by founding The Ladipo Group as a solopreneur. Looking back, I could never have imagined that what started as a small psychotherapy practice would evolve into the impactful organization we are today.
From Frustration to Empowerment
The Ladipo Group’s story began in 2004, driven by my own frustrations with early professional experiences in the mental health field. Fresh out of college, I was eager to work in community mental health agencies, particularly with trauma survivors. However, I repeatedly faced resistance from management when I advocated for clients who looked like me.
The breaking point came when I was denied a raise despite an exceptional performance review, and that moment ignited a fire within me that made me want to create something different. I took a leap of faith, believing I could always return to a traditional job if needed. So, I set out on my own, and what began as a solo venture quickly blossomed into a dedicated team of therapists focused on serving Black and African-American communities.
Addressing Systemic Challenges
Our therapy clients often faced stress from relationships and workplace dynamics, battling against glass ceilings, glass cliffs, and the relentless impact of microaggressions and discrimination. While I cherished my one-on-one sessions, I realized that our influence could extend beyond individual therapy.
In 2010, we broadened our services and began organizational consulting. We worked with leaders, managers, and staff to implement the tools to foster equitable workplaces where everyone can thrive. This shift not only allowed us to deepen our commitment to our clients but also enabled us to drive systemic change within organizations.
A Vision for the Future
We spend about one-third of our lives at work, making it essential to redefine how we interact in these spaces. It’s time for a new way of working that elevates the quality of our professional lives and transforms our overall well-being. Today, we are proud to have worked with many organizations and thousands of people to transform professional relationships and workplace cultures. Listen to why we do what we do.
