Hello! My name is Dr. V and I am a licensed psychologist with an interest in serving the Black community and communities of color.
I believe that every person deserves access to mental health resources and that therapy has the power to help individuals unlock, access, and/or reconnect to their authentic selves. It is through this connection to our authentic selves that we can live our lives to the fullest and support those around us. Making the decision to begin therapy can be a challenging and scary one and I work with clients to honor that feeling and figure out the best way to use the time we have together. I see myself as a person who is knowledgeable in psychology and counseling, and the client as the expert in their experience. Together, we work to understand what the client wants to change, address, and/or improve.
I also see therapy as a tool that may be used many times in life for a variety of reasons. In my mind, we might never be “done” with therapy because life will present us with challenges and opportunities that require the support of a therapist to navigate. I have a lot of experience working with college-aged individuals and older adults trying to explore their identities, navigate relationships, and figure out what their passion is in life. My goal in therapy is to help the client feel seen, heard, and validated as well as challenged to see new perspectives.
I obtained my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Delaware and my doctorate in counseling psychology from Florida State University. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching true crime shows, learning about the universe, and sitting quietly with a hot cup of tea. I am also very passionate about the fight for racial and social justice and finding ways to create more inclusive environments for Black folks, communities of color, and other marginalized groups.
