Emily is a graduate student at Widener University in the Dual Degree Master of Social Work and Master of Education in Human Sexuality Program. She is on the sex therapy track and interested in addressing sexual trauma in the Black community to encourage more conversations while mindfully healing.
Emily started her journey to become a trauma-focused sex therapist in New York in 2017 by hosting events to spread awareness about the psychological and physiological impacts of sexual violence by giving a voice to the silenced. Hosting these events inspired her to start the small business The Power of Your Voice, LLC to support survivors of sexual violence to reclaim their body through self-care, mindfulness, and holistic practices. She utilized social media to spread awareness, offer mindfulness tools, and created homemade essential oil blends to encourage holistic healing.
Emily’s philosophy is in alignment with the Maya Angelou quote, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
